Afrobeat!

Fela Kuti is an icon, and this album is absolutely incredible. If you don't know who he is, just download it and check it out. Prepare to have your mind blown. If you do know who he is, but don't have this one, still download it and prepare to have your mind blown. Awesome top to bottom.

Not the funkiest thing around, but pretty cool stuff.

It is hard to describe. Sort of Beach Boys' Harmonies, with Wall of Sound, My Morning Jacket and some folksy/indie kind of stuff, too. White Winter Hymnal is a beautiful song!

Isaac Hayes: Hot Buttered Soul

This album is a classic. One of the first soul records I really loved.

The funkiest band out there right now!

I saw Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings at the Minnesota State Fair last Thursday and Friday. In honor of her funk-ness and her court of Kings, here are some of her albums.

Naturally

Love this album. The first song has possibly the tightest groove anywhere.

Dap Dippin With...

Again, love this disc. Got a thing on My Mind is super funky. Pick it up, Lay it in the Cut is another awesome track.

If you ever get a chance to see this band live and in person, I highly recommend it.
